Derry Twp. movie theater plans derailed as site courts supermarket // Developer feels slighted, may seek another location: 1997-07-29
In 1997, a developer wantee to place a theater in Hummelstown's Park Village Plaza. These plans were in jeopardy due to the possibility of a Giant moving in--and this possibility, in turn, was in jeopardy because Weis operated a "sham" supermarket in this location. This mess eventually turned into a $21 million judgment against Weis in 2001.

Weis store manager dies in storeroom: 1997-08-15
In August 1997, the store manager of the Carlisle, Pa. Weis was killed in a collapse of back room shelving.
